- Do I need to subtract doorways or openings from the total?
- Yes — this calculator gives you the full room perimeter, it does not automatically subtract doorways, closet openings, or other gaps. Measure the width of each opening and subtract that from the linear footage yourself before you decide how many pieces to buy.
- How long are standard baseboard pieces?
- Baseboard and trim molding most commonly comes in 8 ft lengths, though many suppliers also carry 12 ft and 16 ft pieces for longer walls with fewer seams. This calculator assumes 8 ft pieces by default.
- How much extra should I buy for waste?
- Budget 10% extra for a typical rectangular room with square corners. Bump that up to 15% for rooms with many corners, angles, or a complex layout, since mitered cuts produce more offcuts.
